Jonathan Bailey has exited the upcoming revival of Stephen Sondheim’s classic musical play Sunday in the Park With George. The news comes almost a month after Ariana Grande, who was set to star opposite Bailey, also left the project for a longer break.
Bailey announced his departure in an Instagram story and showed his support for Grande. In the post, Bailey called the musical revival a “passion project.” The actor wrote, “I wish the very best to the entire company. I will be cheering them as they continue with this production.”
Empire Street Productions confirmed his exit, adding that work on the production will continue. “Further casting and production details will be announced in due course,” reads a statement from Empire Street Productions’ Instagram story.
