Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has described the 2027 general election as a defining struggle between ordinary Nigerians and what he termed “the oppressors.”
Kwankwaso made the remarks while receiving a delegation of South-East leaders and stakeholders of the Kwankwaso National Network (KNN), led by Dr Ukpai Iro Ukpai, at his Maitama residence in Abuja.
According to Ukpai, the delegation briefed Kwankwaso on mobilisation efforts aimed at securing a landslide victory for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket in the South-East, with a target of five million votes.
Kwankwaso reportedly told the group that widespread dissatisfaction with governance had created a strong desire for change, stressing that the 2027 election should be seen not as a contest between political parties but as a decisive choice about Nigeria’s future.
“It is not about me, it is about us,” Kwankwaso was quoted as saying, urging Nigerians to resist electoral fraud and vote selling.
He pointed to the recent Osun governorship election as proof that votes could count if citizens defended their mandates. He also charged KNN leaders to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the polls.
Kwankwaso recalled historic cooperation between the North and South-East, citing the Second Republic alliance between President Shehu Shagari and Vice President Alex Ekwueme, and expressed optimism that history was “repeating itself.”
The South-East delegation pledged to deliver at least five million votes for the alliance, while Kwankwaso assured them that education would be a top priority under the Obi-Kwankwaso administration.
National Coordinator of KNN, Asiwaju Mashood Shitu, praised the mobilisation efforts in the region, describing them as “a very big sign of victory ahead of 2027.”
Ukpai added that the meeting ended with renewed commitment to deepen grassroots mobilisation and translate growing support into votes.
