HBO announced this week that the seminal millennial show 'Girls' will be returning for a limited five episode run, and millennial nostalgia is going to be reinforced with a vengeance.
Production is set to begin in 2027, ten years after the final season aired. It is confirmed to feature the four original girls—show creator Lena Dunham as Hannah, Allison Williams as Marnie, Jemima Kirke as Jessa, Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna— as well as bringing back Andrew Rannells as Elijah.
"I've missed these characters, but for a long time I couldn't quite picture them in the present day," said Dunham in the press release, claiming that since she turned forty, she had a renewed sense of direction for the Girls story. The original series first aired in 2012, and although parts of the show remain as relevant as ever, it definitely evokes a time and place that have been getting the nostalgia treatment lately.
