Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has strongly criticised Igbo traders protesting against Chinese nationals operating at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex.

Olayinka reacted in a post on X following the traders’ demonstration against Chinese businesses accused of engaging in direct retail sales in the market.

The traders claimed that Chinese operators were selling goods directly to consumers at lower prices, thereby undercutting Nigerian retailers and putting their businesses under pressure.

Olayinka questioned the protesters’ demand that the Chinese traders leave the market. In a mix of Pidgin and Yoruba, he wrote: “Una come Lagos come trade. Chinese people too come Lagos come trade. Una dey protest say make Chinese people leave market for una. For una Papa’s land abi? Una head no correct. Ori yin o pe!”
