While learning and experiencing earlier versions of Apple's operating systems is best done using old hardware that runs it, sometimes that's hard to do. Unless you're an avid collector and preserver of Apple's hardware, you may not have fully functional versions of what you want to look at on hand.

In the case of the iPod touch, early generations like the iPod touch 2G are a great way to look at how software like iOS used to look. However, for a device that was launched in 2008, actually trying the hardware out is going to be hard or expensive for non-collectors.
