Liverpool is maintaining contact with Aurélien Tchouaméni’s representatives as it keeps track of the Real Madrid midfielder, according to TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey. There is no active push to arrange a transfer, with the France international focused on establishing himself under José Mourinho.
Liverpool remains alert to the possibility of signing a leading midfielder despite being pleased with the progress of Trey Nyoni and James McConnell. Keeping in touch with Tchouaméni’s camp would allow it to follow any change in his circumstances.
His position at Madrid currently offers little encouragement to an immediate pursuit. Bailey reports that Tchouaméni wants to secure a first-choice role and has committed to a new long-term deal, while AS reported in July that he had agreed terms through 2031.
Those reported contract arrangements would give Madrid substantial control over any future negotiation. Liverpool would need a clear indication that a transfer was possible before an ongoing relationship with his representatives could become a serious attempt to sign him.
Tchouaméni turned 26 in January and has already accumulated experience at the highest level. Madrid’s official career review records his arrival from Monaco in 2022 and eight trophies by his birthday this year, including the Champions League and La Liga.
He won his first Madrid trophy on his debut, in the 2022 UEFA Super Cup against Eintracht Frankfurt. Before moving to Spain, he had been selected twice in Ligue 1’s team of the season and named the division’s best young player for 2020-21.
That record gives Liverpool an established player to assess alongside its developing midfielders. The footballing question would be how his experience and ability to protect the defense fit the balance it wants in the center of the pitch.
