I just moved into a converted garage, ceilings are under 8’ and the living room is really long so I’m struggling with layout.

The door on the back wall is the bedroom and behind the camera is the kitchen. I tried to follow rules like keeping pathways open, so initially I had the couch facing the back wall and the tv over there, but my rug is 8x10 and putting it sideways meant 1 foot extended into the path of the doorway. My couch does fit inside it if I keep it lengthways, but no room for side tables and it looked off to the point that it bothered me so much I rearranged my whole living room in the middle of the night.

It still looks off. Everything is squished on the left side. Financially, a new rug and couch is not an option. Also I don’t know what to do with the empty space between the tv and the kitchen counter other than it’s where I feed the cats.

I know my tv can be seen from Neptune but it was given to me and idk it’s fun to watch life sized Heated Rivalry.

I plan on getting a longer curtain rod so the window looks bigger. Haven’t hung any art/pictures because I want to fix layout first.

Any input welcome. I’m annoyed I’m so bad at visualizing things.
