Toronto Police’s homicide unit is investigating after a man was found dead in a North York apartment Sunday morning.
Cops were called to the Lawrence Ave. W.-William R. Allen Rd. area at 8:19 a.m. following reports of a disturbance heard in a residence.
Speaking to reporters outside the building Sunday afternoon, Det. Sgt. Sajeev Nair said officers found a man with “traumatic injuries” in the building.
“Despite the best efforts of the first responders, the male was pronounced deceased on scene,” Nair said.
Cops need help identifying victim, suspect
He said an unknown number of people fled from a unit on the fourth floor — including the suspect — before police arrived at the scene.
“I am seeking the public’s assistance in helping us to both identify the victim as well as locating the suspect,” Nair said.
Police do not have a suspect description, but Nair noted that they were seen heading north when they fled.
He said the apartment building has a “significant amount of video surveillance, so it’s only going to be a matter of time before we have a good image of a suspect.”
He also said he doesn’t believe the victim, believed to be in his 30s, lived in the building.

Local councilor lashes out at ‘gun criminals’
Councillor Mike Colle, who represents the riding where the homicide happened, spoke to told reporters gathered outside the building.
“I was really dreading that this would happen because it’s been so good in the last five years, the community has been doing so much work, and this shatters all that good work,” Colle said.
‘It makes me sick to my stomach and I really feel so badly that these gun criminals would ruin a community that’s trying to rebuild and build for the future and they come around and destroy everything.”
Police did not disclose if a gun was involved in the victim’s death.
