The MCU’s X-Men cast just got even bigger, adding in yet another hero. According to new reports, Gen V star Asa Germann has been cast as Angel, one of the more iconic X-Men and someone who’s already been in a few movies.

Germann will join a cast that already features a star-studded group. The X-Men cast will feature Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Nathaniel Milbury/Mister Sinister. The movie is currently set to release on May 5, 2028.

While Angel has appeared in past X-Men movies, his character rejoining the new movie gives the MCU the chance to right the many wrongs the Fox movies have made regarding the character.

Angel might finally get to shine in MCU’s X-Men

For those unaware, Angel has been a mainstay in the world of the X-Men since the team’s inception, basically. Known as Warren Kenneth Worthington III, the character usually possesses gigantic feathered wings that come out of his back, allowing him to fly. Although originally portrayed as a character that grew up with hardships en route to his time with the X-Men, most iterations have written the character as a wealthy playboy of sorts.

Unfortunately for fans of the character, this has led to some rough interpretations. In 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, Angel is barely around, and serves more as a leaping off point for the film’s plot about people trying to find a “cure” for mutants. He doesn’t get a ton of time in the movie, and even at the end’s climactic battle, he’s more or less relegated to a side role when compared to the larger X-Men group.

After not appearing in many of the newer X-Men movies, Angel would pop up again in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, this time as his Archangel persona. Acting as the living embodiment of Death for Apocalypse’s four Horsemen, it seemed like he’d get a ton of time to shine in the movie. Instead, he’s relegated to basically being a henchman for Apocalypse, and gets dealt with pretty quickly when the time comes for the group to go up against Apocalypse.

While Angel has had pretty much no chance to really shine, that might finally change. The MCU, despite some of its criticisms, has always tried to develop its characters. With as big of a project as the X-Men movie seems to be for Marvel Studios, it stands to reason this will be the case with the group.

Now that he’s not relegated to a side role or an antagonist, fans might get to see the side of Angel that appears in the comics but hasn’t been able to shine through in the movies. He’s a complicated but reliable member of the team who actually has some of the more easier to understand and fun powers of the entire group.
