The worst kept secret in the NFL was finally announced during Sunday’s roster cutdown day across the league. As teams were releasing players, the Los Angeles Rams were signing one, former All-Pro pass rusher Aaron Donald.
This has been coming for weeks as Donald had hinted at coming out of retirement to play for the Rams again, and now he’ll be a part of the best one-two defensive punches the NFL has ever seen with fellow Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett. Few teams can boast that type of firepower on defense, but newest Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Von Miller believes if the Rams can do it, so can the Cowboys. All that needs to happen is for DeMarcus Ware to come out of retirement and join him back in Dallas.

It’s all in good fun from Miller, who once paired with Donald to win a Super Bowl with the Rams, just as he did with Ware to win a Lombardi Trophy with the Denver Broncos. Ware’s been retired for 10 years now and is 44-years old, a far cry from Donald, who’s spent just two years away from the game and is 35-years young.
However, the Donald-Garrett pairing is reminiscent of Miller-Ware combining forces from 2014-2016. Both tandems will go down as possibly the best pass rushing duos in the league during their times, and there are similarities between the two. Think of it as Batman’s, who needed a Robin.
When Ware joined the Broncos, he was seeking a championship that had eluded him while he was with the Cowboys. After being released by the organization that drafted him, Ware joined the Broncos, who had one of the best pass rushers in the league at that time in Miller. The bookends combined for 60 sacks in their three years together.
In total, Ware and Miller each have seven All-Pro (first or second-team) seasons.
For the Rams, they traded for Garrett and hope he finds himself in the same position as Ware. As the NFL’s best defensive player, after all the accolades, Garrett is trying to win a Super Bowl at the backend of his career. Ware was released and signed by the Broncos when he was 31-years old, Garrett was traded at 30.
However, the roles are reversed, it’s Garrett who’s still playing at a high level, and Donald who’s coming back to help before he retires for good. Like Miller and Ware, the new Rams duo has been very successful on an individual level, Donald is an eight-time All-Pro (all first-teams), with Garrett boasting seven All-Pro (first and second-team) honors.
If Donald plays close to the same level as he did when he retired, the Rams have a pass rushing duo that hasn’t been seen in the NFL in a long time, maybe ever.
It’s a nice dream from Von Miller, but he’ll have to find another Batman to his Robin. Maybe Donovan Ezeiruaku, Rashan Gary, or rookie Malachi Lawrence will come to his rescue. And even then, they’ll likely fall short of the Donald-Garrett tandem that might soon be terrorizing offenses.
Garrett threw up the bat signal, and Donald answered the call.
