Monster Season 4, based on the story of female killer Lizzie Borden, has received a mixed reception from critics and viewers. The fourth season of Ryan Murphy’s crime anthology series features Ella Beatty as Borden. The rest of the season’s cast includes Vicky Krieps, Charlie Hunnam, Rebecca Hall, Sarah Paulson, Jessica Barden, and many more.

What Monster Season 4 reviews are saying

The reviews for Monster Season 4 are finally out. Although the show has become a major hit on Netflix in terms of viewership, reviews are mixed.

Variety Magazine lauded the show for its tone. Aramide Tinubu also highlighted how the show differs from its predecessors, adding that the Lizzie Borden story “offers something refreshing and wholly unique” to the popular anthology series.

Joel Keller of Decider praised the chemistry between Krieps and Beatty. He also praised the show’s gruesome visuals.

Lucy Mangan of The Guardian praised the show for one aspect, stating that it “is absolutely full of great performances.” However, she didn’t seem impressed with the show’s direction. Moreover, she suggested that Season 4 does not devote enough time to its main character’s story.

Gabrielle Moss of Collider described Season 4 as nothing but a “romantic melodrama” rather than a crime story. Moss further expressed her disappointment, saying the new addition feels “campy” and “frustrating.” She added, “The Lizzie Borden Story is a mess. The show’s weakest moments are when it tries to make a political argument for revenge murder as a kind of feminist project.”

Monster Season 4 Rotten Tomatoes score isn’t great at all

On Rotten Tomatoes, Monster Season 4, The Lizzie Borden Story has received an underwhelming response from critics and audiences.

The Ryan Murphy show has so far earned 50 percent on the Tomatometer based on critics’ reviews, and viewers have given it a score of 27 percent on the Popcornmeter so far. However, its RT score is somewhat similar to its predecessor, Monster Season 3, which was based on Ed Gein.
