The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a residential building in Lagos allegedly used to store empty bottles of alcoholic beverages for suspected counterfeit production.

The agency’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate discovered more than 100 sacks of bottles at 322B Meiran Road, Agbado Oke-Odo.

The bottles, which included various brands and sizes such as Action Bitter and Royal Circle Premium Whiskey, were destroyed to prevent their reuse.

Assistant Director Kunle Ojo, speaking in a video released Friday, said the operation followed credible intelligence. “On arriving, we saw different kinds of bottles stacked in this place, covered with tarpaulins,” he explained, noting that the bottles were suspected to be supplied to counterfeiters.

Ojo condemned the use of residential areas for such activities, stressing NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health. He urged Nigerians to report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.

“We are calling on all women in Nigeria, please, when you see something taking place in your area, kindly notify the nearest NAFDAC office so that we can stop this menace,” he said.

The agency reiterated its determination to curb the production and distribution of fake alcoholic beverages, warning that counterfeit drinks pose serious risks to public health.
