Netflix has revealed that Blue Eye Samurai will officially end with a third and final season.

Netflix showed off a host of upcoming content at Anime NYC today, including a new trailer and images for Blue Eye Samurai Season 2. In a press release provided to the media, the streamer teased an “epic conclusion production announcement” for the show, which IGN was able to confirm meant the eventual release of a third season.

Netflix told us that Season 3 will serve as the final conclusion for the series, tying up Mizu’s dramatic journey for good.

Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 was first confirmed in December 2023, with co-creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green releasing a joint statement excitedly revealing the news.

"When we started this project, we made a commitment to take this very personal story set in Edo-period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations," they said.

"We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill! We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners at Netflix for letting the journey continue."

The Anime NYC Season 2 trailer showed Mizu sailing to London on a ship, braving stormy seas and dangerous company. It will release on Netflix in January 2027.

Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu, a half-white, half-Japanese warrior who disguises herself as a man to hunt down four white men illegally living in Japan during its closed-borders policy. She believes one of these men is her father, and seeks revenge against him for making her a "creature of shame.”

The series’ first season was extremely well-received by both critics and general audiences, boasting a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

This latest news for Blue Eye Samurai comes on the heels of several other big announcements from Netflix at Anime NYC, including a new trailer and images for the highly-anticipated Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.

The streamer’s slate of animated projects have largely been hits, with Castlevania, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, and Arcane getting rave reviews. Here’s hoping that Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 follows the same trend.
