New manager suggests getting rid of entire department because "AI is going to do it all soon anyway": 'Why would this information be shared if not to make people anxious?'

AI hasn't yet lived up to its promise of revolutionizing the workforce and replacing entire industries of workers. But that hasn't stopped eager managers everywhere from proposing doing exactly this. But just what exactly are they hoping to accomplish by hanging this over their employees' heads?

Nothing makes you feel good like hearing leadership actively disparaging your work. Or being cynical about achievements. This usually occurs when a leader feels insecure about their lack of productive knowledge. That or annual requests for raises

Especially when it is a new leader hired externally who, for some reason, feels a need to put down veteran staff. It's almost like they're insecure about their own lack of experience and feel a need to make that experience less important. Funny how that works.
