A recent report revealed the premiere dates for reimagined microdrama features of Sherlock Holmes and Wuthering Heights. Both movies are set for world premieres this year at America’s first microdrama festival.
According to a Deadline report, the Alza Festival will premiere vertical presentations of Moriarty Rising: A Sherlock Holmes Tale and Wuthering Heights during its run. The Sherlock Holmes-based microdrama will have its world premiere on Friday, October 16, with Wuthering Heights following on Sunday, October 18.
The reimagined version of Wuthering Heights was released on the LoveHit app on August 27, 2026. The reimagined Sherlock Holmes feature will have its world premiere at the festival, giving audiences their first chance to see it during its October 16-18, 2026 run. While a wider digital distribution is planned for later, an official release date has not yet been announced.
The Alza Festival is a new film festival dedicated exclusively to microdramas and vertical-format features. Moriarty Rising and Wuthering Heights are modern-day retellings of their respective original stories.
What else do we know about the new Sherlock Holmes remake?The Sherlock Holmes remake is directed by Alessio Liguori and written by Oliver Draiv. The movie will explore the origins of Holmes’ most famous adversary, set against the backdrop of a modern-day Turin, Italy.
Moreover, Moriarty Rising: A Sherlock Holmes Tale will be released in dual formats. This means that alongside the vertical format, a standalone feature will also be released.
The cast features Ethan Vaughan as James Moriarty, Ford Leland as Sherlock Holmes, Nathan Wiley as Mycroft Holmes, and J. Ciaran Cresswell as John Watson. The ensemble also includes Jayne Kimberley Bloom, Rita Pilato, Christopher Jones, and Robert Baruch Almagià.
Moriarty Rising is the third premium dual-format title developed by Former Prodigy Media, Tip-Top Productions, and Alation Media. Rob McGillivray and Phil Viardo served as producers of the movie, with Christopher Knight and Jonathan Miller as executive producers.
