The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, on Friday visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, disclosed the meeting in a post on X, sharing a video of the encounter. He captioned it: “President Bola Tinubu meets in audience Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, the governorship candidate of the APC in the recently concluded Osun State gubernatorial elections.”
The visit comes days after Oyebamiji lost the election to incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party. Adeleke polled 511,067 votes against Oyebamiji’s 444,815.
The ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured 11.
The Independent National Electoral Commission’s State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, declared Adeleke the winner on Sunday, August 16.
President Tinubu had earlier congratulated Adeleke, describing the outcome as a reflection of the people’s will and evidence that democracy continues to thrive in Nigeria.
He urged the governor to unite Osun residents and prioritise the state’s development.Adeleke thanked Tinubu for his role in ensuring a free and fair election and reaffirmed support for the President’s 2027 re-election bid.
On Thursday, August 20, the governor visited the Presidential Villa, presented his Certificate of Return to Tinubu, and was advised by the President to show “magnanimity in victory” while promoting unity, peace and stability.Oyebamiji’s meeting with the President took place a day after Adeleke’s visit.
