Beavis and Butt-Head may be moving homes next year, if the iconic cartoon’s original creator has anything to say about it.
In a recent report from Puck, Matthew Belloni notes that Mike Judge, the creator of Beavis and Butt-Head as well as shows like King of the Hill, is looking to take back the rights to the show. Belloni mentions that Judge has informed Paramount that he plans on exercising his termination rights for the show.
Typically, creators are able to exercise these rights under U.S. copyright law after 35 years from the date the original agreement was made. If Judge gave away the rights to Paramount in 1992 (a year before the show premiered), then that would line up with 2027 being the first time he can get the rights back.
It’s unclear if Paramount will look to sway Judge or fight the move as of yet.
What do we know about Beavis and Butt-Head Season 12?Originally premiering in 1993 on MTV, Beavis and Butt-Head followed the story of two slackers who would just hang out, make crass jokes, and watch music videos from their home in Highland, Texas.
The show became a smash hit, with Beavis and Butt-Head becoming icons of the 1990s, and praised for their lowbrow humor amongst other things. The show has been spun off into two different movies, and in 2025, returned with a brand new reboot that airs on Comedy Central. The 12th season of the show is currently in development, although little is known of the project.
