The Patriots wanted to get some revenge in their 2026 season opener after falling to the Seahawks in Super Bowl 60. Instead, they will head back home with another frustrating loss.
Seattle overcame a 10-0 deficit and the quick exit of starting quarterback Sam Darnold in the first game of the new NFL campaign, handing New England a 13-10 loss on Wednesday night. Backup QB Drew Lock led three Seahawks scoring drives in the second half, while Drake Maye and the Pats looked like the same team that couldn't handle Seattle's aggressive defense in the Super Bowl.
Here is the Week 1 edition of the Patriots Stock Report, highlighting New England's best and worst performers against the Seahawks.

The defensive unit
You can't put the blame on this group. The Patriots didn't allow the Seahawks to put a single point on the scoreboard until Jason Myers connected on a 30-yard field goal late in the third quarter.
Yes, New England faced a backup in Lock after Darnold went down with a hip injury, but it limited Seattle to just 13 points, 13 first downs and 285 total yards. Maye's interceptions in the second half put the Patriots in a terrible position, but they still had a chance to walk away with a win because this unit didn't break.
Gabe Jacas and Eli Raridon
The 2026 NFL Draft picks didn't look like rookies with both players making impact plays.
Jacas, a second-round pick out of Illinois, had a sack and two tackles for a loss. Raridon, a third-round selection out of Notre Dame, showed why he could emerge as a great target in the red zone, scoring the first touchdown of the new season.

Stock Down
Drake Maye
Uh... yikes.
After a promising start, Maye completely collapsed down the stretch. He threw three interceptions in the fourth quarter, and his last turnover came with the Patriots in field goal range.
If Maye throws this ball out of bounds, New England could have at least sent the game to overtime with a successful kick.

Maye showed a lot of poise in the first half, but he then reverted back to his Super Bowl form, taking too many unnecessary risks.
A.J. Brown
Brown had three catches on four targets for 26 yards, and he was able to draw a penalty near the goal line on a flea flicker. His performance wasn't the issue, though.
The key offseason acquisition suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter and was ruled out for the rest of the game. The Patriots are hoping that Brown will be able to recover quickly because this offense needs him.
Romeo Doubs
Doubs had a nightmare debut.
He didn't register a single catch on three targets. Early in the fourth quarter, he couldn't come down with a jump ball from Maye, and the tipped pass was picked off. Later, he dropped an easy pass from Maye that would have resulted in a first down. Maye threw an interception on the next play.
If Brown suffered a long-term injury, Doubs will have to step up in the coming weeks.
The running game
With TreVeyon Henderson out, the Patriots weren't able to move the ball on the ground.
Rhamondre Stevenson finished with 51 yards on 18 carries, and Corey Kiner had just 11 yards on six carries. Maye's 47 rushing yards on scrambles inflated New England's unimpressive total.
