IndiaAIFounders — Rachel Comey Spring 2027 Celebrates a Female Pro-Wrestler and Chocolate in Your Purse

On Wednesday inside the Judson Memorial Church in Greenwich Village, Rachel Comey celebrated 25 years with a Spring 2027 collection inspired by an unexpected muse: Rosalyn Drexler.

The late artist, playwright, novelist, nightclub singer, Emmy Award-winning comedy writer and professional wrestler (!) had a distinctive presence in New York City’s cultural scene. (And even performed at the Judson in the 1960s.) Comey and her team went into Drexler’s archive and pulled out imagery, writing and ideas to inform the collection. It’s not a literal interpretation of her work, but more so an exploration of her life and legacy through colors, shapes, textures and motifs.

According to press materials, Drexler’s independence, humor and ability to move between different creative disciplines remind Comey of her customers, whom the brand characterizes as “fiercely independent, courageous, fun and good-looking.”

Models came down the runway in vibrant shades of green, with some looks paired with sequin fringe between layers of tulle. These colors came from Drexler’s paintings and photographs, with greens, cobalt blue, lilacs and bold color combinations shown throughout the show.

As a nod to the multi-hyphenate’s wrestling career (under the name Rosa Carlo), championship-belt motifs became coin paillettes on sport-inspired shorts. Drexler’s painting techniques were translated into fabric treatments, and actual ephemera from Drexler’s time at the Judson popped up throughout the collection, printed on bags, silk scarves, T-shirts and shoes. Again, they aren’t literal reproductions of her work, but instead “fragments rearranged,” according to the brand.

The collection’s accessories include sequin fringe carryalls, belt bags and a silver clutch that’s a partnership with chocolate brand, Unreal.

“We’ve got a lot of chocolate in the development office to R&D and figure out how many tiny pieces we can hide in our outfits,” Comey joked backstage. “We like pockets, so we made a chic bag so you can put your bag in another bag filled with chocolates.” The bag features graphic striped cotton lining with colors pulled from Unreal’s brand and Comey’s Spring ’27 collection. The Coco Bag retails for $425 and is available for pre-order.
