Vinicius Junior finally reached an agreement with Real Madrid to renew his contract during the last summer, thus bringing to a successful end his prolonged negotiations with the club. This renewal was expected to bring the Brazilian forward back to his best level after underwhelming with his performances in the last two seasons.
However, this has not really turned out to be the case, as Vinicius continues to struggle to perform at his best level. He left a lot to be desired at the start of this season, but in the game against Villarreal, there was a point when he looked to be getting back in form. This was especially the case when he put the ball in the back of the net in the second half.
Unfortunately, it only proved to be a mirage. The goal was chalked off because of a foul by the Brazilian in the build-up, and his action of pulling an opponent’s hair ended up in him getting a red card after a VAR review. Although his emotional outburst in such a context was understandable to some extent, his reaction only aggravated the situation.
As Diario AS has reported, the Competition Committee announced last night that the Real Madrid star has been suspended for four games, two for the hair pulling incident and another two for his aggressive reaction.
Thus, Jose Mourinho will be without the star winger for the upcoming games against Sevilla, FC Barcelona, Racing Club, and Valencia. Although he will be available for the UCL games against RB Leipzig and AEK Athens during this time, he will not be able to play again in La Liga again till the end of the next international break, on 21 November.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid, significantly angered by the penalty, will try to get it reduced by appealing the sentence. But with the way things have been going for the Merengues lately, it seems quite unlikely that they will see any success with this.
