Raymond potted the shootout winner as the Red Wings rallied for a 4-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks at Little Caesars Arena. The Detroit forward still hasn’t scored a goal this season. Shootout tallies don’t count towards a player’s goals total.

Alex DeBrincat forced overtime when he scored with 1:33 left in regulation time and Detroit goalie John Gibson on the bench for an extra attacker.

The Sharks dominated zone play for much of the first period, but it was the Red Wings who opened the scoring on the power play. Justin Faulk’s shot from the point found its way past former Red Wings goalie Alex Nedeljkovic and into the Sharks’ net.

San Jose replicated that goal before the end of the opening period. On a Sharks power play, Dmitry Orlov drove a point shot past Gibson to make it 1-1.

The Sharks took the lead early in the second period. Macklin Celebrini completed a tic-tac-toe play with Will Smith and Michael Kesselring, wiring a shot off Gibson’s shoulder and into the top corner on the Detroit goalie’s glove side.

San Jose increased its advantage to 3-1 on a third-period power-play goal by rookie forward Ivar Stenberg. Detroit pulled one back when Emmitt Finnie tipped home Michael Brandsegg-Nygard’s feed for his third goal of the season.

Takeaways

Michael Rasmussen drew an assist on Faulk’s goal. After going 32 games without a point, the Detroit forward now has points in consecutive games. Former Red Wings player and assistant coach Doug Houda is an assistant coach with the Sharks. Detroit defenseman Moritz Seider saw a game-high 29:46 of ice time.

Key Moment

San Jose failed to score on a power play in overtime after Andrew Copp went off for hooking Celebrini. Red Wings defenseman Seider had two blocked shots and a takeaway during the penalty kill.

Key Stat

Celebrini figured in all three San Jose goals. A dozen Red Wings players don’t have three points this season.

Up Next

After playing seven of their first eight games on home ice, the Red Wings begin a four-game Western road trip on Tuesday at Seattle against the Kraken. Game time is 9:40 p.m.
