Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil could beat Alien: Romulus and Scream VI at the global box office. The upcoming horror movie is heading into theaters with strong early momentum ahead of its release next week.

If the projection holds, Resident Evil would open above both recent horror hits worldwide. Alien: Romulus debuted with about $108.2 million globally in 2024, while Scream VI opened to roughly $67 million in 2023.

The director is also bringing elements from the games into the movie. Bryan has limited ammo and health, which adds more tension to his journey. Cregger wants viewers to feel the same pressure players face when their supplies run low.
The cast also includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser. Resident Evil gives Cregger a chance to put his own spin on one of gaming’s biggest horror franchises. Its theatrical release will show how audiences respond to his take on the series.
