Springbok RG Snyman and his wife, Saskia, have welcomed their first child, a baby girl.
The rugby player, who is based in Ireland, has been out of action in recent months due to an ACL injury sustained in March.
RG SNYMAN IS A DAD!On her Instagram account, RG Snyman’s wife, Saskia, shared news that the couple had welcomed their first child – a daughter.
The Snymans shared pictures of their newborn as well as her name.
Saskia shared: “Rooks Rose 🤍She’s here, and she’s perfect”.
RG – nicknamed the “Viking” – joins fellow Bok girl dads like Eben Etzebeth, Bongi Mbonambi and others. He is also a first-time father like Vincent Tshituka, Edwill van der Merwe and Kwagga Smith.
The towering lock has been out of action for the Springboks for the duration of 2026, after injuring his ACL in March. He is expected to return to play in 2027 after a lengthy rehabilitation.
ARE THEY IRISH CITIZENS?
RG Snyman – nicknamed the “Viking” – and Saskia moved to Ireland in 2020 when he signed with Munster. In 2024, the tallest Springbok signed with the rival Irish club of Leinster.
The Snymans have been living abroad for more than 5 years, making them eligible for residency.
Although their first child was born in Ireland, it does not automatically make her an Irish citizen.
Based on her eligibility, baby Rooks Rose could qualify for citizenship, as she is the child of legal residents of Ireland who have been living in the country for at least three of the four years preceding her birth.
WHEN WILL HE RETURN TO THE PITCH?
RG Snyman suffered a ruptured ACL in his right knee while playing for Leinster against Glasgow Warriors back in March.
With a lengthy rehabilitation, Leinster confirmed that RG had been ruled out for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus also confirmed that RG and Kwagga Smith, whose wife is also expecting, were two long-term injured Springboks expected to return in 2027
