RollerGirl is a small-town, slice of life adventure game where you have crashed your car and are now roller blading around, listening to your MP3 player, and taking on odd jobs so that you can earn some repairs.

The gameplay itself is pretty open with lots of different people to discover and tasks for you to take on. Some strange man wants to take some trash from you for their collection, two neighbors think that each of them is sending threatening notes to the other, and there’s even some teenage romance sprinkled in.

The small town, everyone-knows-everyone vibes are a real hit in RollerGirl, where the quirky characters are a whole personally in themselves. Everyone seems to refer to you as the legacy your brother has left behind, and you find yourself picking replies from how you really feel, though often that’s not what it seems these people are replying to. I do love the personality within the main character, but did find this quite jarring as it makes a sort of disconnect from what you are saying and what people are replying to you with. I do wish this was more direct or made more sense story-wise.

RollerGirl is an adorable, cozy small-town story that feels like a place you can skate around and pick what you want to do each and every day. Even when things like the weather change, your world becomes covered in rain, making it grey and strange, matching the music itself. You can find secrets, like new music and other objects off from around the area as you are fulfilling tasks to earn money, so that you can pay off your broken car.

I got the chance to play RollerGirl at Gamescom. There isn’t currently a release date, however, you can wishlist the game on Steam.
