Sandra Bullock has shared a hilarious explanation of why Nicole Kidman was the perfect choice for a bold erotic thriller role she ultimately passed on. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bullock revealed that director Halina Reijn’s Babygirl had initially been offered to her, but her dietary restrictions got in the way.
“I’m lactose intolerant, so I couldn’t do some of the pivotal scenes,” Bullock joked, referring to the film’s infamous milk drinking scene.
Kidman went on to star as Romy in Babygirl, portraying a high-powered CEO who embarks on a secret affair with her younger intern. Bullock added that while the rest of the script was fantastic, she couldn’t get past the dairy aspect, teasing, “I said, ‘What about Nicole?’ She loves milk.”

The actresses first portrayed the characters in the 1998 fantasy film, which has become a cult favorite over the years. Directed by Susanne Bier, the sequel brings the Owens family back for another supernatural story.
The film is set 25 years after the events of the first film and follows the Owens sisters as they uncover the hidden family secrets and the origins of their magic. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are also returning as Aunt Frances and Aunt Jet.
The cast also includes Joey King as Antonia and Maisie Williams as Kylie, who join Bullock and Kidman as members of the younger generation of the Owens family.
Written by Akiva Goldsman, Georgia Pritchett, and Kelly Marcel, Practical Magic 2 is adapted from Alice Hoffman’s 2021 sequel novel The Book of Magic. Both Bullock and Kidman serve as producers alongside Denise Di Novi.
Practical Magic 2 is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 10, 2026.
