We're already well settled into the second part of the school year, and we're back to the daily routine of getting up early, missing breakfast because we don't have enough time, and running out the door to catch the bus before it's too late.
For those of us who finished school some time ago, this time of year brings quite a bit of nostalgia. We remember the school rides, the kids screaming and playing and making an absolute mess up there. We still wonder how the driver managed to stay sane while taking us to school and back home every day. We were many things, but we were never quiet or peaceful kids. Some of us were quieter than others, that's true, but the general environment of a school bus was not necessarily relaxing.
The longest rides were those involving field trips. The ride could be even more fun than the activity itself, and the best memories we got came from those moments when we were all together with our friends. Singing, playing, and making the poor bus move around… We're still not sure how we got back home and how the bus didn't break down.
We may have had the time of our lives, but what about the teachers and the bus driver? Those poor people had to put up with us for who knows how many hours. Imagine being in your 30s or 40s, with a family, and a mortgage, and that your work is driving around a few dozens of screaming children, or even worse, spending 6 hours a day with them, making sure they learn something and send them home in one piece. Yeah, we appreciate our teachers and bus drivers much more now than we did back then.
At times like this, nostalgia hits, and all we want to do is laugh it off so we won't get sad about not being children anymore and having to take the bus to work instead of school.
