Scores of Vinayaka idols wash ashore after immersion, workers clear tonnes of debris
According to GCC data, 92.965 tonnes of waste, including 9,413 idols, were collected from the immersion sites between Sept. 19 and 20. Palavakkam accounts for the highest quantity of waste at 77 tonnes. The materials used in the idols can take days to dissolve, says scientist R. Ramasubramanian
