Skylar Gisondo recently discussed his upcoming DC series, The People v. Gorilla Grodd, and how it differs from Superman. The series was announced in August and will have eight episodes. Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda created and serve as showrunners for the series.

Gisondo says that, with Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda making the show, its tone has some similarities to their hit 2017 show American Vandal. He stated, “I think it’s sort of like that kind of comedy, but with the ante kind of revved up a little bit.” The People v. Gorilla Grodd is a true-crime mockumentary set in Metropolis. While Superman was a CGI-heavy movie, the series will apparently rely on practical effects to some extent.
Many photos from the set of The People v. Gorilla Grodd show a performer wearing a practical gorilla suit, and fans have also noticed him participating in musical activities. Gisondo told Josh Horowitz on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast on YouTube, “I’ve seen some singing, and the puppet team did an incredible job. I think practically we’re going to be able to get away with a lot and not need to rely as much on CGI as they thought.”
The actor also revealed how he felt while acting opposite the gorilla puppet. Although he initially thought it would be “kind of like tennis-ball acting,” it turned out to be completely different.
He added, “The puppet is so—you look into his eyes, and you immediately care about him, and you feel like you’re talking to somebody. And it’s been really fun.”
