The India Test side is touring Sri Lanka for the first time since 2017 when they had clean swept a three-match series. The hosts have also not beaten India in Tests since 2015, when they won the Galle Test against their Asian rivals in a 2-1 series defeat.

Interstingly, Galle will host the first match of the upcoming series, starting Saturday, August 15. The second Test is scheduled to start on August 23, and will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Both Tests will start at 10am local time (10am IST/5:30am UK time).

India will miss the services of Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan due to injuries, with Auqib Nabi and Sarfaraz Khan named as their replacements. Sri Lanka are also dealing with injuries to Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, both of whom have been ruled out of the first Test. Niroshan Dickwella and Dilshan Madushanka have been recalled after three years, while two uncapped players - off-spinning all-rounder Keshara Nuwantha and top-order batter Pasindu Sooriyabandara - have also found spots.
