Do you remember the GAC GS4? The compact crossover from yesteryear has been reenergized with a hybrid powertrain and a modern look to compete in today’s arena.
Officially called the GS4 Max HEV, GAC’s latest offering is expected to go toe-to-toe with the likes of the Toyota RAV4 and the Kia Sportage Turbo Hybrid. It enters arguably one of the most competitive segments in the market today with an equally competitive price tag.

At launch, GAC is offering its GS4 Max HEV in a lone variant for an introductory price of P1.218 million. That makes for an P80,000 discount, which puts its regular price at P1.298 million.
Those interested in the new crossover have until September 30, 2026, to avail of the introductory pricing. Notably, these figures undercut most of the GS4’s segment competitors, and even those in smaller size classes.

In exact numbers, the GS4 Max HEV measures 4,685mm long, 1,901mm wide, and 1,690mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,750mm. Notably, its ‘criss-cross’ grille creates an expansive fascia, while its lofty fenders lend it an even larger impression than its dimensions suggest.
Around back, a spoiler is mounted on an angular tailgate, with thickly shaped taillights to match. The tall roofline also features roof rails that enhance the GS4’s sporty look. Its stance is further supported by 18-inch wheels, shod in 235/60 R18 tires.

The cabin is dressed in synthetic leather upholstery, while similar materials are used on the steering wheel and other high-touch surfaces. Overall, the interior has a simple layout, with a relatively compact 10.1-inch main display tying the cabin together. It’s then complemented by a seven-inch digital panel on the driver’s side, and a four-speaker audio system spread across the first and second rows.
Speaking of the second row, GAC says that its new crossover should offer rear passengers about 990mm of legroom. Exact cargo capacity has yet to be uncovered, but the second-row bench seat can be folded down to extend the trunk to 2m long. Along with the panoramic sunroof, the GS4 could make for a fun outdoor vehicle.

There are also several options for charging and connectivity, as the GS4 features a 50W wireless charging pad and four USB ports. The latter comprises three USB-A outlets and a single USB-C slot. To cap everything off, an old-school 12V outlet has also been added to the crossover.

As mentioned, this version of the GS4 has been electrified with a hybrid system. Specifically, a single electric motor has been paired with a 2.0-liter ATK engine and a 2.1kWh Nickel Cobalt Manganese battery to produce 232hp. In terms of torque, the motor is rated for 300Nm, while the engine can deliver up to 180Nm at 4,500rpm.
Power is then managed by a two-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, with Eco, Comfort, and Sport drive modes to choose from. GAC claims that the GS4 Max HEV should be able to drive up to 1,250km on a single tank of gas, averaging 20.8km/L along the way. Under the metal, a McPherson suspension system has been mounted up front, while a multi-link setup is equipped at the back.
