Social grant beneficiaries have less than five days left to migrate from SASSA gold cards to the new Postbank black cards before the August 31 deadline.

Postbank says more than 1.8 million beneficiaries have already completed the migration process, but nearly 80 000 people still need to switch.

The bank has urged those who have not yet migrated to act quickly to avoid delays in accessing their grant funds.

Postbank prepares for final rush

Postbank says it has introduced additional measures at card replacement sites to handle the expected increase in beneficiaries during the final days of the migration process.

Beneficiaries can complete the switch at Postbank card replacement sites, selected retailers, including Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Boxer, Pick n Pay and Spar stores, as well as participating Postbank sites.

The process is free, and beneficiaries only need a valid South African ID or temporary ID and their current SASSA gold card.

Missed the deadline? Payments will continue

Postbank says beneficiaries who miss the August 31 deadline will still receive their social grants and their accounts will remain active.

However, they will need to complete the migration before they can access their money.

The bank says it will keep most card replacement sites open after the deadline to assist beneficiaries who have not yet switched.

How to get the new black card

Beneficiaries can visit their nearest card replacement site or selected retailers to complete the migration.

They can dial 120355# from any cellphone to find their nearest migration site.

Postbank says the black card works immediately after it is issued, and beneficiaries do not need to visit SASSA offices or complete additional forms.

Any remaining balance on a gold card will automatically transfer to the new black card.
