This 1997 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra coupe was purchased eight years ago by the current owner, who commissioned the installation of a Vortech supercharger system for the 4.6-liter DOHC V8 in 2019, followed by an engine rebuild in 2021 at a cost of over $50k. The latter included installing Darton cylinder sleeves bored to 3.700″ and a 4340 crankshaft with a 3.750″ stroke, bringing the displacement to 5.3 liters. The engine is linked to a replacement Tremec T-56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission and a Strange Engineering S-Trac differential. Other modifications include aftermarket exhaust system components, a QA1 level three drag kit, Wilwood front calipers, and Cobra R-sourced wheels. The exterior is finished in Rio Red Tinted Clearcoat, and inside, the Saddle leather-trimmed cabin contains a roll cage, a Schroth racing harness, an S1 sequential shifter, and AutoMeter auxiliary gauges. This Mustang SVT Cobra coupe has been in California since new and is now offered on dealer consignment with service records, a damage-free Carfax report, and a clean California title.
The SVT Cobra featured Cobra-logo fender badges and a revised front bumper cover when compared to the contemporary Mustang GT. This example is finished in Rio Red Tinted Clearcoat and features fog lights, hood vents, and a rear wing.
The car rides on a QA1 level three full-vehicle drag kit that features a tubular K-member, a rear sway bar, MOD Series coilovers, boxed trailing arms, and revised control arms. The braking system is equipped with Wilwood front calipers that clamp over cross-drilled and slotted rotors. The five-spoke wheels were sourced from a Cobra R, and they are mounted with Nitto tires.
The cabin is equipped with a red-finished roll cage, and it has a Schroth racing harness for the driver along with removable door bars. The articulated front seats are trimmed in Saddle leather, and additional interior details include an S1 sequential shifter, auxiliary switches, and a trunk-mounted fuel cell.
Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and supplementary readouts. A digital gear indicator is mounted to the steering column, while AutoMeter auxiliary gauges are mounted atop the dash and in place of the stereo. The six-digit odometer shows 102k miles, although the Carfax report shows a mileage inconsistency in February 2026. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.6-liter DOHC V8 was fitted with a Vortech supercharger system in May 2019, then in March 2021, an engine rebuild featured Darton cylinder sleeves bored to 3.700″ and a 4340 crankshaft with a 3.750″ stroke, which brought the displacement to 5.3 liters. The build totaled over $50k, and additional components include:
- 10.0:1 compression ratio
- Ross Racing pistons
- Aftermarket camshafts
- ARP 2000 head studs
- MLS head gaskets
- Oversized intake and exhaust valves
- Frostbite Performance aluminum radiator
- 17″ Derale 2,400-cfm radiator fan
- PMAS 95mm MAF
- DeatschWerks fuel pump
- Melling high-volume oil pump
- 60-lb Siemens fuel injectors
- Revised engine management
Per the seller, the car is tuned to run on E85.
A Tremec T-56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission has been retrofitted in place of the factory five-speed manual unit, and the rear end utilizes a Strange Engineering S-Trac differential with 3.73:1 gears and 35-spline Strange Engineering axles. The exhaust system features 3″ stainless-steel piping, long-tube headers, electronic cutouts, and MagnaFlow mufflers. A McLeod RXT heavy-duty twin-disc clutch kit was fitted in March 2021.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage. It also lists the aforementioned mileage inconsistency.
The car cannot pass a California smog test, and it cannot be sold to an in-state private-party buyer.
