The Conjuring: Unspoken is an interactive story, cloud-based narrative horror game. Per Netflix‘s official site, the game will be available to play on TV and computer browsers. While it’s a single-player game, it cannot be played in offline mode, as it offers progress saving in the cloud.
Developed by Warner Bros. Games and Supermassive Games, it is age-restricted and rated 18+. The game’s official description from the streaming platform reads, “An accessible, interactive supernatural horror movie based on The Conjuring, focusing on tension and creeping dread where you control the action with your mobile phone.”
Since it’s a narrative game, players can shape the story by choosing different dialogue options as they play. Players get to scour the historic Red Lion Inn, which is reportedly a haunted place in England, for clues about things that go bump in the night.
Per Netflix, players start things off as Bryony Cooper, an 8-year-old girl who hasn’t spoken a word since her mother died. “The combination of her grief and inherent paranormal sensitivity makes Bryony a perfect target for otherworldly visitors. As the story plays out, a demon begins invading her dreams,” the publication explained.
At key points, the perspective will also shift to demonologist Francesca Noakes, who will have users scan the area around them with ghost-hunting tools of the trade, like an electromagnetic field reader, an infrared camera, and a spirit box, to find apparitions in the wild. While the big screen will serve as the virtual environment, the mobile phone will act as the controller for these tools.
Fans can play The Conjuring: Unspoken with their Netflix subscription.
