The hybrid Subaru Crosstrek e-Boxer has just been updated with a more powerful engine in Japan. It now sports a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which is the same mill found in the larger Forester e-Boxer.
However, the Crosstrek still utilizes a single motor to complete its hybrid setup. Subaru then claims that its smaller crossover should be able to achieve a fuel consumption of 19.5km/L. In terms of power, its combined output hasn’t been revealed, but some improvements can be expected thanks to the bigger engine.

The 2.5-liter powerplant alone makes 158hp and 209Nm of torque, while the motor is rated for 118hp and 270Nm. In case anyone wants to make a comparison, the current hybrid Crosstrek makes 154hp and 196Nm with its 2.0-liter powertrain.

Subaru also used this release to offer the Crosstrek in a new Ignition Red colorway. Buyers in Japan can also opt for a more premium Harman Kardon sound system and an additional navigation package. A closer inspection will also reveal a different e-Boxer logo on the tailgate.

Aside from these components, the Crosstrek was largely left unchanged. All-wheel drive still comes standard, along with Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT. Considering that the previous model was released in the Philippines earlier this year, we shouldn’t expect the new Crosstrek any time soon.
At the same time, the bigger engine will likely command a higher price. During its launch, the sub-P2-million price of the current Crosstrek was one of its most attractive aspects. But let us know: Would you want a more powerful hybrid Crosstrek from Subaru? If so, how would you price the car?
