This fantastic collection of 15 vehicles comes to us from Private Collection Motors in Costa Mesa, California. They’re calling it the “The Iconic Collection,” as each was selected for its rarity, design, performance, historical significance, or the lasting impression it has made on the automotive world. From from the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing to air-cooled Porsches to the Spyker C8 or the breathtaking McLaren Speedtail, there’s sure to be something in the group that will make you weak in the knees.
Auctions for the Dream Garage Collection begin on Wednesday, October 14. A preview of the vehicles on offer continues below.
1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing
Around 1,400 examples of the W198 Gullwing coupe were manufactured between 1954–57. That was 70+ years ago, making it incumbent upon today’s Gullwing buyer to find an example with “good” history. Chassis 5500289 had an auspicious start and has lived a charmed life. It was first delivered to German noble Franz II (the second to bear the Franz II title, so…Franz II, II?) at his family’s Erbach Palace in Erbach-Erbach (that’s a lot of Erbachs). From there it was sold to an American serviceman stationed in Europe, found itself shipped to Ohio, and took up residence with a Gullwing Group member who kept it for 35 years. It was refreshed twice over the years by marque expert Paul Russell, and got a new plaid interior and Rudge wheels under current ownership.
RUF CTR-Specification 1981 Porsche 911 Carrera Widebody
In 1987, the RUF CTR Yellowbird became the world’s fastest production car, with a 211 mph top speed, and its subsequent Nürburgring romp, “Faszination on the Nürburgring,” went viral back in the VHS days. Demand for the potent conversion was strong enough that the company continued to offer it well into the 2010s. This example was one of the last customer-supplied cars to receive the CTR treatment, which it did in 2014. More recently, it went under the care of a former RUF Chairman and Formula 1 team owner, who sent it back to Pfaffenhausen for wide lightweight bodywork.
RoW 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo by Kaege Retro
This 993 TT longhood from German builder Kaege Retro has got to be the ultimate backdate. The car is a 2020 conversion that first sold on BaT back in 2024 and has traveled approximately 500 miles since. The concept was to emulate the iconic RSR stylistically while bringing performance, amenities, and comfort up to date with over 500 twin-turbocharged horsepower and all-wheel drive.
17k-Mile 1996 Porsche 911 Turbo
On the other hand, the 993 TT was a stunner in stock form, and this low-mileage example is equipped in Guards Red over black supple leather heated seats. This was the first generation of the Turbo to feature all-wheel drive, transforming the platform into the everyday supercar we know and love today.
39k-Mile 1992 Porsche 911 Turbo
Turning the clock back one mroe generation is this 964 Turbo, also in Guards Red but with Cashmere Beige leather inside. The lines of the 964-generation are particularly clean, even with widebody fenders and the big Turbo spoiler out back, and the multi-piece Speedlines complement the look very nicely.
La Carrera Panamericana Class-Winning 1967 Porsche 911S Coupe
Image: Steve Marshall via Pelican Parts Forum
This SWB 911S lost its original engine somewhere along the way, but the replacement mill was hot enough to power it to a first-in-class finish in the 2003 Carrera Panamericana rally (it’s the middle car in the image above). We were stoked to see it for sale back in 2013 (for $40k!), and it received two rounds of refurbishment before coming back to BaT in 2020. The car clearly lives a more civilized life these days, but retains vestiges of its racing past with equipment like racing buckets, a roll hoop, and a SCART exhaust.
210-Mile 2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic
Yes, there are a lot of special-edition Porsches, and no, they are not all created equal. Just 1,250 examples of the 911 Sport Classic were built, based on the 992 Turbo S with retro cues calling back to the RS 2.7 of the 1970s like a ducktail spoiler, Porsche door stripes, Fuchs-inspired wheels, and Pepita cloth interior accents. Beyond that, the Sport Classic is a rear-wheel-drive sports car (as opposed to the Turbo’s AWD) with a seven-speed manual. Unlike the RS 2.7, this Sport Classic is equipped with every feature imaginable and shows a mere 210 miles on its odometer.
157-Mile 2020 McLaren Speedtail
Many a race car designer sought to minimize drag with elongated teardrop-shaped bodywork, which made for some wonderful-looking profiles—but the cars could get dangerously light at speed before the full importance of downforce was discovered. The McLaren Speedtail recalls the sculptural beauty of these 1960s endurance racers while applying modern aerodynamics and technology to reduce flight risk. Good thing, too, as the Speedtail’s 1,035-horsepower hybrid-electric drivetrain can push it up to a terminal velocity of 250 mph. Only 106 Speedtails were made for a single model year, and any currently in the US are here on a “show or display” exemption—so owners need not feel any guilt for leaving them parked.
171-Kilometer 2008 Spyker C8 Laviolette
The steampunk elegance of the Spyker C8 can be polarizing, but it’s impossible to deny that nearly every component on the car is an objet d’art in and of itself. The example you see here was displayed at the Geneva Auto Show in 2009 and is a Laviolette model, indicating a glass-pane roof with a polished aluminum surround and an air inlet. It is said to be the only example specified in Black Olive over Saddle leather. The scant odometer reading is partially due to the fact that is was on display at the Petersen Museum for two years after it came to the US in 2020.
13k-Kilometer 2001 Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0 SE
If you’re wondering who would order a Diablo in brown, look no further than the Lamborghini factory itself. For the Diablo’s last hurrah, the company built a run of approximately 40 cars in VT 6.0 SE spec: 20 were finished in Oro Elio, putatively to represent the sunrise, and 20 in Marrone Eklipsis to represent sunset. Now, we have never seen a gold pearl sunrise or a brown sunset, but if you’re a cool Italian designer who never takes their sunglasses off, this is probably how the world looks. At any rate, the color looks incredible on this, the 36th of the series, and we’re happy to see it being offered as part of the collection.
4,800-Mile 2019 Lamborghini Aventador LP770-4 SVJ Coupe
The mustachioed Aventador LP7700-4 SVJ is one of the last Lamborghinis to take its motivation solely from the internal combustion cycle, which its 6.5-liter V12 completes 850 times per second when revved out to its 8,500-rpm redline. The model is a track-focused variant of the Aventador, with revised aero, carbon ceramic brakes, and more carbon fiber inside and out.
Modified 2000 Mercedes-Benz G500
Modified G-wagens aren’t an uncommon sight on Bring a Trailer, but this one strikes a more utilitarian pose than most. The work was done by Banyan Motors of Houston, Texas, with the goal of emulating the portal-axle-equipped 4×4². We’d say they accomplished that and then some; the truck additionally has been fitted with three locking differentials, a Raw Machine winch, steel rear windows, a dual suspension setup, steel bumpers, and other heavy-duty goodies.
1961 Jaguar XKE Series I 3.8 Roadster 5-Speed
This early E-Type has the features prized by Jaguar connoisseurs: flat floors, external hood latches, and welded louvers on the bonnet. The current maroon shade is a 2026 repaint, and while it now runs a 5-speed Tremec gearbox, a Moss four-speed is included in the sale.
2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R M-Spec Nür
2002 was the final year for the R34 Skyline GT-R, and this Millenium Jade example is one of 285 M-Spec Nür models. For the uninitiated, this semi-cryptic designation meant first that the car featured a host of handling and chassis upgrades from head engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno (the “M” in M-spec). Nür was for the Nürburgring circuit, where much of the development testing occurred, specifically on a more powerful N1 engine featuring a reinforced block and internals as well as larger turbochargers.
6k-Mile 2019 Bentley Bentayga V8
Since the early days, marques like Bentley and Rolls-Royce have been some of the largest cars on the road; the Bentayga SUV carries on in this tradition, and the appointments of its capacious cabin outshine most private jets.
