The Mosquito Bowl trailer has dropped online, putting college football stars on a collision course with World War II. Nicholas Galitzine and Bill Skarsgård lead Peter Berg‘s sports drama based on Buzz Bissinger’s sports narrative novel.
The movie’s official logline reads, “Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, four of America’s top college football stars set their fame aside to enlist in the Marines. As they prepare for the brutal invasion of Okinawa, they’ll play in a legendary game featuring some of the greatest players in history — a game that, for many, will be the last they ever play.”

What happens in The Mosquito Bowl trailer?The first Mosquito Bowl trailer shows the players moving between football, military training, and life in the Marines. Their strong team bond remains visible as they adjust to their new surroundings.
The footage also contrasts the players’ athletic lives with the growing threat of combat. Football games and team celebrations give way to scenes that reflect the dangers ahead.
The trailer builds toward the historic Mosquito Bowl game played by service members before the Battle of Okinawa. The game serves as a final link to the lives the players left behind.
Galitzine plays John McLaughry, while Skarsgård plays Bob Baumann. Meanwhile, Ray Nicholson and Tom Francis play Tony Butkovich and David Schreiner, respectively.
Berg directed The Mosquito Bowl and co-wrote the screenplay with Mark L. Smith. The story is based on Bissinger’s book The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II.
The film also reunites Berg with several Friday Night Lights collaborators. Bissinger serves as an executive producer, while Brian Grazer is a producer. Explosions in the Sky, who worked on Friday Night Lights, provide the music. Production took place in Australia, including Queensland and northern New South Wales.
The Mosquito Bowl will hit select theaters on October 30, 2026. The film will later debut on Netflix on November 25, 2026.
