Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is about to dethrone two of the biggest studio records in box office history. The film is closing in on the all-time highest-grossing titles from both Disney and Universal.

The Odyssey likely to beat The Lion King, Jurassic World and more

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has earned $1.63 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. The epic currently sits at No. 14 on the all-time global box office chart. It trails Jurassic World ($1.67 billion) and Disney’s The Lion King ($1.66 billion) by slim margins.

Jurassic World holds the title of Universal Pictures’ highest-grossing film ever. The Odyssey needs roughly $40 million more to surpass that milestone. The film should topple Universal’s record likely by next weekend at its current pace.

Disney’s The Lion King earned $1.66 billion during its 2019 theatrical run worldwide. The studio has six films ranked higher on the all-time chart than The Lion King. Zootopia 2 ($1.87 billion), Inside Out 2 ($1.70 billion) and four others all outgross it. However, none of those carries “King” in its title literally. The Lion King therefore remains Disney’s box office “King” in the most literal sense possible.

The Odyssey also has Inside Out 2 in its sights at $1.70 billion worldwide. Nolan’s film needs approximately $67 million more to overtake Pixar’s animated sequel. That target appears achievable given the film’s continued strong international performance across multiple markets.

Zootopia 2 sits considerably higher at $1.87 billion on the all-time chart globally. That gap of roughly $235 million makes catching Disney’s animated sequel a much taller order. The Odyssey would need a significant surge in ticket sales to challenge that figure.

The Odyssey currently ranks as the highest-grossing film of 2026 behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film has earned $589 million domestically and $1.04 billion from foreign markets. Its 36.1% domestic split indicates particularly strong international appeal for Nolan’s latest epic.
