A new anthology movie is being developed based on the social horror forum The SCP Foundation. SCP stands for Special Containment Procedures and is also the forum’s guiding motto: “Secure, Contain, Protect.”
The award-winning studio, NEON, is set to develop and produce an anthology feature based on the beloved community fiction project The SCP Foundation. The studio, known for some of the most daring and celebrated films of the last decade, will contribute to the long-running open-source horror project and release the film theatrically in 2027.
Created in 2008, the SCP is a fictional secret foundation that collects and studies supernatural and dangerous objects and entities for the good of humanity. Its task is to contain anomalous objects, entities, and phenomena. The site allows creators to contribute written works that expand the SCP Foundation’s lore. These works inspired many short films, web series, and games.
What else do we know about the new The SCP Foundation movie?According to the official press release, the studio will release the anthology film and related materials under the Creative Commons CC BY-SA license. This would allow other creators to share and adapt the material, as long as they comply with the license’s attribution and other requirements.
Moreover, they have been in communication with the SCP Wiki team to ensure that the film’s distribution does not deviate from the team’s mission and licensing guidelines. NEON’s announcement comes after the SCP Foundation criticized A24’s V/H/S: SCP Foundation Film, produced by Spooky Pictures and Image Nation.
A24’s work was called out in an official statement noting that no communication had been made with the project’s filmmakers, producers, or distributors. In the statement, the foundation members added, “A24 does not and cannot have any exclusive rights to anything related to the SCP Foundation, including any films that Spooky Pictures or anyone else may choose to create.”
According to Deadline, NEON’s production was underway before A24’s announcement. A24’s V/H/S: SCP is planned for a theatrical release in 2027. NEON plans to do the same.
