For comparison, there are 15 American women in the Top 100, including 8 in the Top 50. Meanwhile the USA has over 340 million people and the Czech Republic only about 11 million. There are also a number of young Czechs coming up in the system who aren’t top 100 yet, like Laura Samson, Vendula Valdmannová, Alisa Oktiabreva, and the Kovačková sisters.
As Russian women have begun to lose their dominance in the WTA in the new generation, it feels like Czech women have begun taking their place over the last 10 years or so.
