"Thursday Night Football" heads to historic Lambeau Field for the first time this season, with the Green Bay Packers hosting the Atlanta Falcons in a matchup between two teams desperate for momentum.
Green Bay enters at 1-1, while Atlanta is still searching for its first win at 0-2.
The Packers’ season got off to a discouraging start when they surrendered 39 points in a Week 1 loss to Minnesota, including 27 points in the second half. Jordan Love and company responded in Week 2, however, overcoming a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Jets 20-17 in overtime. It came at a cost, though, as Green Bay lost wide receiver Jayden Reed to a neck injury and starting tackle Zach Bako-Bewele to a season-ending knee injury. Guard Aaron Banks is also out Thursday, leaving an already-shaky offensive line even more depleted.
The Packers are also still without running back Josh Jacobs (Commissioner's exempt list), putting even more pressure on Love and the passing game. Without their starting running back, Green Bay has struggled to establish much of a ground attack and Jayden Reed’s absence further thins out the offense.
Atlanta, meanwhile, is desperate for a spark after an ugly 0-2 start. The Falcons have scored just 16 points combined and are the only NFL offense that hasn't reached the red zone in two games. Atlanta is the fourth team since NFL Play-by-Play was first tracked in 1978 without a red zone drive through two games, joining the 2008 Rams, 1997 Lions and 1992 Patriots, per ESPN Insights.
Now, Michael Penix Jr. returns to the starting lineup for the first time since tearing his ACL last season, giving Drake London, Bijan Robinson and Kyle Pitts a chance to finally get this offense moving.
For Green Bay, this is also its 2026 home opener, meaning the Falcons will have to deal with one of the NFL’s most iconic environments. The Lambeau Field crowd will be ready, and we’ll cover all the action here, with USA TODAY Sports providing live updates, highlights and more for the Packers and Falcons' "TNF" game in Week 3.
