Tom Selleck has lined up his first major television role since Blue Bloods ended. Apple TV has added the veteran actor to the cast of its upcoming comedy series starring Elizabeth Banks.

Tom Selleck reunites with Three Men and a Baby co-star Ted Danson in an Apple TV comedy

Apple TV has not revealed what character Selleck will play. The streamer confirmed his guest-starring role but kept plot specifics confidential. The untitled series follows Heidi, played by Banks, as she navigates life after a messy divorce. Determined to create a fresh start for herself and her kids, she accidentally gets pulled into managing her father’s retirement community romantic adventures. This forces Heidi into an unexpected partnership with the perpetually single son of her father’s girlfriend (via Deadline).

Selleck joins an ensemble that includes Ted Danson as Heidi’s father. The cast also features Rob Delaney, Katey Sagal, Jared Goldstein, and Spencer Moss. Hamish Linklater, Michelle Buteau, and Simu Liu appear in recurring roles.

Moreover, the project reunites Tom Selleck with Ted Danson more than three decades after they co-starred in Three Men and a Baby. Leonard Nimoy directed that 1987 comedy, which became one of the year’s biggest box office hits.

After all, Selleck spent 15 seasons leading the cast of Blue Bloods on CBS. He played Frank Reagan, the New York City Police Commissioner who balanced professional duty with family loyalty. The series ended its run in December 2024 after more than 290 episodes. His television career spans multiple iconic roles. Before Blue Bloods, Selleck starred as Thomas Magnum in Magnum P.I., a role that got him an Emmy Award. He also played Richard Burke on Friends and headlined the Jesse Stone television movie series.

Now, the new Apple TV role is a shift in tone. Selleck has built his recent reputation on dramatic authority figures, but this comedy will have him alongside established comic performers like Banks and Delaney. Apple has not announced a release date for the series. Production details remain limited as the show moves through its early stages.

However, Liz Heldens and Matt Ward created the Apple series and serve as showrunners and executive producers. Jonathan Krisel directs the pilot and executive produces with others.
