Hasbro has released a new look at Peter Cullen’s final performance as Optimus Prime. The latest video comes as a 12-minute animated short created as a tribute to Cullen and the Transformers franchise.
Frank Welker also returns for Optimus Prime: Awakening as the voice of Megatron and Soundwave, where he reunites with Cullen for one final performance.
The short will screen exclusively in theaters alongside select 40th-anniversary screenings of The Transformers: The Movie. The 1986 animated classic returns to theaters in 4K and 4DX via Fathom Entertainment from September 17 to 22.
Cullen, who voiced Optimus Prime for more than four decades, considered the anniversary project a meaningful return to the character.

What happens in Optimus Prime: Awakening clip?The new Optimus Prime: Awakening clip shows Optimus Prime moving through a deserted alien world while trying to evade the Decepticons. He hides among the rocks, but Soundwave soon finds him and launches an attack.
Things get even worse when Optimus tries to regroup and comes across Bumblebee. His trusted Autobot ally seems to be under Decepticon control and suddenly points his blaster at Optimus.
The short scene also gives Peter Cullen’s final Optimus Prime performance an emotional moment. Optimus is typically portrayed as the one in control, but here he is forced to face a painful betrayal. Frank Welker also spoke about working with Cullen again, calling the chance to share the screen with his longtime friend one last time “a real gift.”
Seeing Cullen and Welker’s reunion should make the short even more meaningful for longtime Transformers fans who have followed their work since the franchise’s early days.
Optimus Prime: Awakening will release in theaters beginning September 17, alongside select anniversary screenings of The Transformers: The Movie.
