Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued three kidnapped victims after thwarting a kidnapping attempt along the Dandume-Damari axis in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The operation followed a distress call on Friday about the abduction of civilians along the road.
Soldiers quickly mobilised to the scene, made contact with the terrorists and engaged them in a confrontation that forced the attackers to flee into the surrounding bushes.
As they escaped, the terrorists abandoned their three victims and a black Volkswagen Golf vehicle.Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said in a statement that the troops pursued the fleeing terrorists and successfully rescued the victims.
They were identified as Abubakar Abdulkadir, 25; Mansir Idris, 26; and Abubakar Aliyu, 21.The victims were later escorted and released to continue their journey.
No casualties were recorded among the troops during the encounter.Danja said the operation highlighted the efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect civilians, disrupt terrorist activities and deny criminals freedom of action within its area of responsibility.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
