Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully thwarted a terrorist attack in Sokoto State and rescued two kidnapped victims, while also arresting a suspected drug peddler in Kaduna State during separate operations on September 12 and 13, 2026.
According to a statement released on Monday by the JTF Media Information Officer, Lt. Col.
Aliyu Danja, soldiers from Sector 1 carried out a stop-and-search operation along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road on September 12.
They intercepted a man identified as Yohana Musa, who was travelling to Birnin Gwari with a large quantity of illicit drugs and other substances.
The suspect and the seized items remain in military custody pending further investigation.
In Sokoto, troops of Sector 2 responded to a distress call on September 13 after terrorists attacked Unguwan Lalle in Sabon Birni Local Government Area.
The soldiers made contact with the attackers, engaged them with firepower, and forced them to retreat in disarray.
During the encounter, the troops rescued two kidnapped victims.Intelligence later indicated the terrorists were attempting to regroup.
The troops quickly mobilised to the new location, re-engaged the group in a fierce gun battle, and again compelled them to withdraw.
In the follow-up search of the area, the soldiers recovered 157 rounds of PKT ammunition, phone batteries, and other items.
The Joint Task Force said the operations highlight ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and restrict the movement of criminal elements across the North-West.
The Theatre Commander praised the troops for their gallantry and professionalism, reaffirming the command’s determination to deny terrorists and other criminals freedom of action in the joint operations area.
