Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued a kidnapped man and neutralised three suspected kidnappers during a dawn raid in Edo State.

The operation took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday, 11 October 2026, in Sasaro Forest, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.

It was carried out by soldiers of the 195 Battalion (Reconnaissance) working with other security agencies after a tip-off, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited security sources.

The rescued victim has been identified as Prince Michael Akao. During the encounter the troops killed three suspected kidnappers and recovered three locally made guns, nine cartridges and other items.

Akao was taken to hospital for medical care and is said to be responding well to treatment. The recovered weapons and items were handed over to the Department of State Services, while the bodies of the dead suspects were transferred to the Nigeria Police Force.

Makama said the raid forms part of continuing efforts by the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division to tackle kidnapping and other crimes in its area of responsibility.
