The TTC says it’s investigating online videos that reportedly show youths breaking into a bus yard in Etobicoke and taking a bus for a joyride, CityNews reports.
“We are aware of an incident of trespassing earlier this month and it’s being investigated with those involved subject to prosecution,” spokesperson Stuart Green told the outlet. “Needless to say, in addition to being criminal, this is incredibly irresponsible and dangerous behaviour that puts the individuals involved and potentially others at risk.”
The video shows a bus being driven around several times at high speeds at the North Queen Yard in Etobicoke, just east of Shorncliffe Rd. on North Queen St. It includes footage from inside the bus from the driver’s point of view. Part of the video shows the bus crashing into a sign, almost hitting another nearby trespasser.
Authorities involved
The TTC didn’t say if anyone in the video has been identified or if charges were laid in the incident. It also didn’t say whether or not the bus was damaged in the incident.
Speaking to reporters at another press conference, TTC CEO Mandeep Lali said security measures have been improved and that authorities are now involved, according to CTV News .
“The authorities are involved. I absolutely condemn that despicable criminal act, and we will be ensuring that the full force of the law is applied here to anyone or perpetrators involved in that,” he said. “The security has been improved and we’re monitoring that location, other locations, just as a precautionary measure as well, above and beyond what we normally do.”
Toronto police say they have a “report on file,” but didn’t say any more.
