This 1957 Porsche 356A is a Reutter-built coupe that was the subject of an Outlaw-style build carried out by Mark Jung, founder of MFI Werks in Bend, Oregon. Power comes from a twin-plug 2.7L flat-six with a magnesium case, Pauter connecting rods, high-lift camshafts, and Bosch mechanical fuel injection, and shifting is through a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle. The car rides on Fuchs-style 15” wheels with Koni shocks and four-wheel disc brakes, and the interior is outfitted with Speedster-style seats, Simpson harnesses, and custom gauges. Other highlights include lift-up Lexan door windows, front-mounted oil coolers, a stainless-steel exhaust system with headers, and a Fuel Safe fuel cell. Purchased by the current owner in 2010, this custom 356A is now offered by the seller on their behalf with a clean California title in the name of the owner’s family trust.
The car was refinished in Carrera GT Silver Metallic during the build and is said to have been repainted again more recently. Lift-up Lexan door windows and quartz halogen headlights have been installed, and other details include a single-grille decklid, dual side mirrors, and body-color bumpers.
The front trailing arms were modified to accommodate disc brakes, and rear trailing arms from a 1968 911 were installed along with Koni shocks all around. Dual master cylinders are connected to S-type front calipers and M-type rear units. Custom jack points were also added to the chassis.
Polished Fuchs-style 15×6” wheels are wrapped in Michelin tires.
The cabin was redone by Autos International in Escondido, California, and features Speedster-style seats trimmed in black with red piping as well as Simpson latch-and-link harnesses and Coco floor mats. Manual controls are provided for air/fuel mixture and throttle position.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel has engine-turned spokes and sits ahead of modified green-letter instrumentation consisting of a central tachometer flanked by a 160-mph speedometer and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 5k miles, approximately 1,400 of which have been added under current ownership.
The air-cooled 2.7-liter flat-six was built using a magnesium case, a 66mm-stroke crankshaft, Pauter connecting rods, 93mm pistons and cylinders, and high-lift camshafts. The twin-plug cylinder heads were ported, polished, and outfitted with 38mm intake and 37mm exhaust valves. The Bosch distributor was modified with Andial components, and a Bosch mechanical fuel injection system was installed along with front-mounted oil coolers and a stainless-steel exhaust system with headers.
The Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle was rebuilt in 2025, per the seller, and power is sent to the rear wheels through custom drive axles with Type 930 CV joints.
A 20-gallon Fuel Safe fuel cell is mounted in the front trunk.
An album of photos documenting the refurbishment will accompany the car.
