A Hamilton family whose home was damaged by a fire last month is also dealing with the loss of a loved one’s ashes following a break-in at their vacant home.

Police said that on Aug. 21, a fire at a home on Rosslyn Ave. subsequently destroyed a neighbouring home, forcing its residents to relocate while the home was being repaired.

“During that time, someone broke into the vacant home and stole jewelry, collectable items and other valuables. Sadly, the urn holding the victim’s parent’s ashes was also taken,” Hamilton Police said in a Monday news release.

Cops said investigators are hoping to reunite the victim with their loved one’s remains and are asking anyone with information to contact Det.-Const. Olivia Hutchison at 905-546-2956.

Man wanted after officers hit with car: Durham cop

A man is wanted for allegedly hitting two police officers with a car in Oshawa and fleeing the scene last week.

Durham Regional Police said that on Sept. 22 at about 1 a.m., officers on patrol spotted an Acura sedan speeding on Simcoe St. N. with no lights.

Cops said officers initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to stop and fled from the area. Police later located the car parked in the driveway of an unoccupied home and found the driver hiding in a backyard nearby before taking him into custody.

Cops said officers found a replica firearm and drugs in his vehicle.

At the time of his arrest, police said the man was on conditions not to have care or control of a motor vehicle and to remain in his residence at night.

While officers were continuing their investigation, police said a Tesla SUV was seen speeding in the area. Police said the cops attempted to speak to the Tesla driver as the vehicle came to a stop. But as the officers were speaking to him, the vehicle allegedly attempted to reverse, hitting the two cops before fleeing from the area.

An officer was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the other was treated for minor injuries.

Investigators identified the Tesla driver as Yaseen Waggan, 23, of Ajax.

Police said he’s wanted for flight from a peace officer; dangerous operation of a conveyance; assault causing bodily harm; two counts of failing to comply with a release order; failing to identify himself to an officer; and failing to remain.

Woman sexually assaulted on Scarborough hiking trail

Toronto Police are looking for a male suspect who sexually assaulted a woman along a popular hiking trail in Scarborough on Sunday afternoon.

Police said officers were called at about 3 p.m. to the Kingston Rd.-Rouge River area, where it was reported that a woman who was walking along Mast Trail at Rouge National Urban Park was approached by a man who then sexually assaulted her.

Cops said the suspect has a dark brown complexion, dark brown eyes and bushy eyebrows. He was wearing a black ski mask and black gloves.
