A man has been charged with murder following a deadly Saturday night stabbing in North York.

Toronto Police said officers were called to the Steeles Ave. W.-Hilda Ave. area, where the victim was allegedly stabbed during a fight. Cops said life-saving measures were performed on the victim — a man in his 50s — but he died at the scene.

He was later identified as Albert Gundran, 57, of Vaughan.

Police said Meir Cohen, 46, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Gundran is the city’s 29th homicide victim of the year, police said.

Suspect sought for Little Italy theft

Police are seeking tips on the identity of a male suspect fingered for a distraction theft last month in Little Italy.

Toronto Police said they responded to a distraction theft call on Aug. 23 at about 5 p.m. in the College-Beatrice Sts. area after the victim was approached by a vehicle and asked for directions.

The victim approached to help, after which the suspect exited and embraced the victim while replacing a necklace with a fake chain. He then fled from the scene.

Cops said the male suspect is about 5-foot-8 and 30 to 40 years old with a heavy build, short, dark hair and a dark beard. He was wearing a white T-shirt, dark pants and a black baseball hat at the time.

The suspect vehicle is a late-model, light-blue/grey Volvo XC60 with a sunroof and dark tinted windows.

Cops probing motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist has died in a single-vehicle crash in the city’s western waterfront early Sunday morning.

Toronto Police said the motorcyclist was travelling westbound on Lake Shore Blvd. W., approaching British Columbia Rd. when it lost control and struck a pole on the south side of Lake Shore Blvd. W.

Police said the 34-year-old man was ejected from his motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toronto Police Duty Insp. Jon Rose told reporters at a news conference that the circumstances around the crash are still being investigated, but noted speed may have been a factor.

Lake Shore Blvd. W. was closed to traffic between British Columbia Rd. and Ontario Dr., but was reopened in the afternoon.

Police are asking local residents, businesses, and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators.
