People tend to mock those who say "I'm an actor" because they don't see it as a real job. The truth is, in the cinema industry, actors have some of the toughest times. They are constantly looking for a job, going to auditions, getting rejected, and bearing all the bad manners of the directors and production team who haven't found their star yet. Besides, their contracts are only for a few weeks or months, so they have to manage their salary very well or get a job immediately after finishing one, so they can afford everything. We're not talking about A-listers here. We're talking about those actors who are not famous yet, the ones who show up as extras, with a few lines or none at all. If that wasn't enough to handle, how many other jobs do you know where you have to change your entire personality with every gig? Not many, surely.
If you're not lucky enough to be famous yet, being an artist will always be hard. The most amazing thing about these people is that they continue doing what they love even if it's difficult. They keep going into auditions, they keep taking acting classes, they keep hoping for their big break.
We can't do much as an audience to help them, except for keeping the cinema alive. If we go to the movies, if we enjoy them, if we talk about them, write reviews, or anything we can think of, we're keeping this art alive. Movies are made to be seen, to be entertainment, to make people feel and think. Actors are a fundamental part of that, and if we can help them, we will.
